Soundgarden's metal/commercial qualities have alraedy been discussed at such great length that I don't feel the need to go into it here. However, I feel I do need to mention that I don't consider 'Superunknown' either a metal or a commercial album, since almost every song found in this monster full-length resembles a different aspect of their sound, plus a few drawn from outside, almost.
  5. Gusida says:
Soundgarden's finest hour, Superunknown is a sprawling, minute magnum opus that pushes beyond any previous boundaries. Soundgarden had always loved replicating Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath riffs, but Superunknown's debt is more to mid-period Zep's layered arrangements and sweeping epics. Their earlier punk influences are rarely detectable, replaced by surprisingly effective appropriations.

Mar 12,  · While ’s Badmotorfinger might have set the stage, Superunknown tipped it up and burnt it down in spectacular fashion. Spurred on by a series of imaginative videos that found the band peaking just as MTV did, it went on to sell millions of copies worldwide, cementing the band as one of the forces of 90s rock.. It was released exactly a week after Nirvana played their final ever show in.
